For its 15th edition the fair gives pride of place to African photography from Bamako to Cape Town and proposes a complete panorama of this scene. With a selection of 135 exhibitors (galleries and publishers), 23 countries represented and 55 new participants, this anniversary edition grants a prominent place to renewal and discovery. Brought together around the theme of 'Mutations', more than 75 speakers will participate in interviews, round tables and performances.
Since its origins, photography has widened its field of vision,
relentlessly creating a dialog between the artistic forms with which it
interacts and the “reality” that it perceives. The arrival of Paris Photo
at the Grand Palais at last offers this perpetual movement its full scope
and enables it to present all the wealth and vitality of historical and
contemporary photographic creation in what really is an exceptional
environment.
With a selection of 135 exhibitors (galleries and publishers), with 65% of
the galleries from overseas, 23 countries represented and 55 new
participants, this anniversary edition grants a prominent place to renewal
and discovery.
The fair welcomes amateur and professional photographers to photography
enthusiasts and collectors, and aims to welcome the participation of over
fifty cultural institutions, organisations and patrons.
For its 15th edition, from 10 to 13 November, Paris Photo gives pride of
place to African photography from Bamako to Cape Town and proposes a
complete panorama of this scene: a powerful presence of the continent’s
artists (44 representatives) with a number of South African galleries and
an exhibition of the works of 12 young emerging photographers, organized
by the Rencontres de Bamako.
The Grand Palais venue is also the occasion to create within the Fair new
get-togethers for all the photography publics. Hence, the exhibition
“Recent acquisitions” is to present the recent photographic acquisitions
of three international institutions (this year, the Tate from London, the
International Center of Photography from New York and the Musée de
l’Élysée from Lausanne). The exhibition “Private Collection” will propose
a realization of the pioneering role of the private collector who, with
passion and perseverance, puts together collections of master works or
reveals new approaches. The leading Artur Walther collection opens this
opus.
Finally, so as to persuade us of the creativity and the formidable boom in
books on photography, as well as an exhibition devoted to a cult book on
the history of the photograph, Love on the Left Bank (1956) by Ed van der
Elsken, the Paris Photobook Prize will be awarded for the very first time
to one from a selection of 60 photography books published during the past
15 years.
This panorama would not have been complete, however, without the novel
initiative of a platform of events. Brought together around the theme of
“Mutations”, more than 75 speakers will participate in interviews, round
tables and performances to take place during Paris Photo. A “Live”
platform which is to be accompanied by a reference work so that this
intellectual brainstorming may be shared with the greatest possible
number. One way of prolonging four festive days dedicated to photography.
Four days to get the most out of this “permanent mutation”.

In 2011, Paris Photo is reinventing itself and has developed a new identity
for the event, structured around four features to be inaugurated this year,
which will also give shape to its programming in the future.
