With the Goethean title Mehr Licht (More Light), we present the first retrospective of the artist Chema Alvargonzalez (Jerez de la Frontera, 1960 - Berlin, 2009), a major multidisciplinary artist who lived and worked in two cities: Barcelona and Berlin.
Alvargonzalez is acclaimed as one of the most representative artists of the first generation of techno-cultural globalism. His work is expressed in a language that hybridizes, in the form of images, light and words, and revolves around the relationships of the human subject in an urban context.
The show, which includes photographs, sculptures, videos and installations, and research papers, reflects the artist’s way of working, while tracing a path through his central themes: travel, the city, chance, words, absence…
This is the first major exhibition of Alvargonzalez’s work since his death in 2009, while the artist was preparing a show in the Laboratory space with a project combining art and science.
That project has now been expanded, thanks to the collaboration of scholars, gallery owners and collectors, to take the form of a major retrospective which will occupy the central space of Arts Santa Mònica.
