The Collection in the Cube. The 180-degree turn not only means that the collection will temporarily wander into the cube but, in particular, that familiar narrative models will be scrutinized and possibly turned on their heads. Four large themes illuminate the collection beyond the usual art-historical categories and show visual and content-related connections over time.
The 180-degree turn not only means that the collection will temporarily wander into the cube but, in particular, that familiar narrative models will be scrutinized and possibly turned on their heads. Four large themes illuminate the collection beyond the usual art-historical categories and show visual and content-related connections over time. Inspired by the line of a poem borrowed from Karl Gerok »Mein Stuttgart, wieder da« (My Stuttgart, back again), the city will be illustrated by different views, while the hall dedicated to the notion of a »lack of place« will deal with abstract formal language - »No Place. Nowhere.« On the third floor, named after Michel Foucault’s philosophical treatise »Les mots et les choses«, things and words will be juxtaposed with one another, presenting a debate about the description and recording of the world. The rooms in between will be dedicated to the collection’s monographic artists Willi Baumeister, Dieter Roth, Wolfgang Laib, and Otto Dix.
The change in the room concept requires large-scale dismantling and installation works. For this reason the Kunstmuseum is closed from 24 October to 18 November. The museum would like to thank its visitors for their patience with free admission on the weekend of the re-opening (19/20 November) and guided tours (in German) starting at 11 a.m.
