A CALL FOR ENTRIES

An Exhibition by the SFAI Artists Committee in Association with the Walter and McBean Galleries
August 28 - October 11, 2003

Application deadline: March 13, 2003

Commenting on the changing culture of Bay Area urban space and the utilization of this space by artists as source, site and concept, the San Francisco Art Institute's Artist Committee, in association with the Walter and McBean Galleries, presents the Annual Exhibition SPACE AVAILABLE and invites artists to consider their available space.

What are the politics of space (from live/work to home-less shelters), site-specific installations, architectural concepts, urban planning and our tenuous relationship to the natural environment? What are the roles of public and private space? While some artists may define space as physical, others interpret space in their work as something less tangiblex{00A8}lmore psychological or visceral.

SPACE AVAILABLE will have use of the SFAI campus and the Walter Gallery to exhibit work in all media.

The San Francisco Art Institute is a fine art college offering accredited BFA, MFA, and MA degrees, a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate, and Pre-College Program; as well as community education programs for adults and teens; and year-round programs of commissioned projects, exhibitions, and public lectures featuring artists from around the world who participate in the community through residencies, critiques, teaching, and other forms of engagement.

THE ARTISTS COMMITTEE of the San Francisco Art Institute serves as a link between the Art Institute and the larger artist community in the Bay Area and assists the galleries in organizing a variety of activities and exhibitions throughout the year including the Adaline Kent Award exhibition, the Annual exhibition for Bay Area artists, Day Without Art, and the Salon Series.
