A3 is a curatorial surprise. In the very heart of the project lies a
sense of experimentation. How will the different artists respond to
the firm limitations that the project offers? Only the visitor who
ventures to the Crying Room on March 4th will find out.
A3 brings together a group of emerging artists that with disparate
practices. They have come together with Swedish artist and curator
Per Hüttner to create an exhibition about the necessity to make art.
Each artist was asked to create a new piece of work while
contemplating two questions: Why are you an artist and how does
collaboration shape what you do? Per Hüttner also gave the group the
paradoxically vague, yet exacting parameter that each artist use a
sheet of A3 paper.
The project began with a series of workshops and studio visits with
Per Hüttner on his recent visit to Emily Carr Institute of Art +
Design in Vancouver, Canada. While visiting, he engaged in
discussions with each artist individually, while as a group they
worked together to create and curate the A3 exhibition.
The show opens on Tuesday, March 4th, 7 p.m. at The Crying Room
Gallery at 157 E. Cordova St. in Vancouver.
The Crying Room Gallery is an independent artist run center
representing and exhibiting emerging artists
locally and internationally.
