Text Works 1990 to 2012. I testi evocano il silenzio e le riflessioni scaturite durante i frequenti viaggi dell'artista in luoghi remoti del mondo. Long inizio' gia' da studente, durante gli anni '60, a sperimentare con la scrittura, le mappe e la fotografia.

comunicato stampa

Richard Long, while still a student at St Martin’s in London in the late 60s, began making walks and documenting them with texts, maps and photographs. These texts, factual and poetic, evoke the silence and reflection of his journeys in often remote parts of the world. Long’s first text-work was made in 1969 for When Attitudes Become Form, the seminal exhibition of Conceptual Art curated by Harald Szeemann at the Kunsthalle in Bern. In this exhibition we present a group of works which chronicle walks made over the past 22 years in England, Ireland, France, Italy, Greece and South America.

Richard Long was born in Bristol in 1945. He studied first at the West of England College of Art, and then at St Martin's School of Art in London from 1965 to 1967. Within a year of graduating he participated in the first international exhibition of Arte Povera, in Amalfi, Italy, and the following year was included in the Earth Art exhibition at Cornell University, New York in 1969.

As well as numerous museum and gallery exhibitions, Long has had retrospectives at the Guggenheim Museum, New York, in 1986; ARC, Musèe d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, in 1993; the National Museum of Art, Kyoto, in 1996; and the Tate Gallery, London, in 2009. He represented Britain at the Venice Biennale in 1976, and was awarded the Kunstpreis Aachen in 1988, the Turner Prize in London in 1989, and the Praemium Imperiale in Tokyo in 2009. He was named a Chevalier dans l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Government in 1990.
