Core. Digital projections and sound create a new world at World Heritage Site, Ironbridge Gorge. An exhibition designed by renowned international artist: a series of virtual aquariums containing dynamic bodies in extreme motion whose movements are neither predictable nor repeated.
Digital projections, sound and a historical building meet in international artist Kurt Hentschläger's new work CORE at the Engine Shop at Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage Site.
Step into a new digital world of lights, movement and sound. CORE is a series of windows into a weightless world of small, computer-generated humanoid figures. They interact instinctively like schools of fish or flocks of birds, sometimes moving alone, sometimes as large groups like a choreographed ballet or synchronized swimmers.
CORE will feature a number of inter-linked projections, each with multi-channel sound, filling the surrounds of the historic Engine Shop with its ever-changing patterns.
CORE is designed by Chicago-based artist Kurt Hentschläger. His work has been shown in major international exhibitions, including Venice Biennale, National Museum of China Beijing, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, and PS1 New York. In 2010 he received the prestigious Quartz Electronic Music Award.
CORE will be shown at Enginuity at Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage Site, one of the 10 museums situated in the heart of the Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage Site. Ironbridge is known internationally as the birthplace of Industry and a centre for creativity.
Located within the historic surroundings of a blacked-out Victorian Engine Shop this audiovisual artwork has been created using a number of inter-linked projections. The result is a series of virtual aquariums containing dynamic bodies in extreme motion whose movements are neither predictable nor repeated. These identical humanoid figures interact both instinctually like schools of fish or flocks of birds and at other times they appear choreographed like ballet dancers or synchronised swimmers.
