A Historical Perspective. A one-day event that examines the work of the Slovenian art collective
Neue Slowenische Kunst were an important artist collective formed in the 1980s in Slovenia comprising three core groups. Their work addressed the social and political situation in Slovenia, during a period of great turmoil as it was undergoing separation from the former Yugloslavia. Conceived as a form of 'gesamtkunstwerke' their work - whether as painting, music performance, theatre or design - manifests an evolution of the notion of 'appropriation' in art. There is a series of talks examining the group's history (10.30-22), the complete programme is on the web site. At 21.30 the slovenian music and cross-media group Laibach - describing themselves as 'engineers of human souls' features a multi-media show recreating moments key from their history in the early 1980s to the future, in a performance specially designed for the Turbine Hall.
