In order to standardize the showing protocol, every artist is asked to show one digigraphy, one portfolio and one USB stick.
Galerie de Roussan and Monstre decided to collaborate together to propose an original exhibition asking the question: how to think about an exhibition as act of edition?
This question may appear banal as an underlying theme nonetheless we decided to show no physical works. To answer the question, Monstre does not invent a new exhibition protocol, but gives a proposition to think about the gallery space as a three-dimensional extension of the paper magazine. Therefore, the two dimensions of the printed pages become a new layout of the space. The idea does not involve hanging framed pages to the walls but gives to think about various possible set-up of the relation text-image.
A protocol of “Monstration”:
Texts by authors of Monstre, a digigraphy, an 8 pages portfolio and a USB stick with data (images, texts, sounds or others) in relation with the context of the image.
A protocol
Monstre asked to 9 artists to extract an image of one of their works. This image may represent a part of a work or the work already produced (photo, painting, video or drawing). Then, they draw up a portfolio with Gilles Beaujard, artistic director of Monstre, and register data in the USB stick.
Monstre called some authors to write texts with some key words to analyze the serigraphies. Gilles Beaujard will design the texts.
A proposition
This lay out is not linear. Monstre’s proposition does not stand on a theme. The artists are set up by iconographic patterns, by meanings… in order to invent as many stories as leads to think about new editorial forms.
