Wendy, the winner of the 13th annual Young Architects Program (YAP)
This exhibition features proposals from the five finalists of the MoMA/MoMA PS1 Young Architects Program (YAP), and the five finalists from each of our affiliated programs in Rome at the National Museum of XXI Century Arts (YAP MAXXI) and in Santiago, Chile (YAP CONSTRUCTO). Now in its 13th edition, the Young Architects Program at MoMA PS1 offers emerging architectural talent the opportunity to design and present creative projects, challenging each year's winners to develop highly innovative designs for a temporary outdoor installation that provides shade, seating, and water. The architects must also work within guidelines that address environmental issues, including sustainability and recycling. The winning designs by HWKN (New York, NY) in Long Island City and Urban Movement Design (New York) in Rome will be on view throughout the summer in the courtyards of the respective museums. The winning design for YAP CONSTRUCTO will be on view in Santiago, Chile, from December 2012 through February 2013. Organized by Pedro Gadanho, Curator, Department of Architecture and Design. Thursday, June 28, 2012 at 5pm press preview of Wendy remarks by Barry Bergdoll, Chief Curator, and Pedro Gadanho, Curator, MoMA's Department of Architecture and Design; and Matthias Hollwich and Marc Kushner from HWKN. Followed by a walk-through with architects. At 6pm opening reception (image: Rendering of HWKN's Wendy, winning design of Young Architect's Program 2012. Image courtesy of HWKN).
