A four-week performance art marathon and installation.
Crazy Space presents a month-long performance series and a new,
multimedia installation, curated by LA-based dance theater and
media artist Michael Sakamoto and featuring local performance
artists, including Rochelle Fabb; Michael Morrissey and Franc
Baliton of the Rachel Rosenthal Company; Ann Perich of Guitar Boy;
and Joan Spitler.
"Don't Take It/Personally is both a meditation and discourse on
the issues of authenticity versus superficiality, the social and
emotional value of art and the very nature of mediated
experience," the series states. "Individual attendees to the
exhibition will be forced to choose between a direct,
unadulterated performance within an austere, confined, intimate
space with a single performer or an entirely second-hand,
depersonalized, multimedia version of the performance. By bringing
matters of personal choice, individual interpretation and the
ephemerality of all experience to the fore, the exhibition will
assert that everything in our lives is personal, especially when
we attempt to deny it."
Crazy Space is dedicated to fostering art works that might not
otherwise find a home because of their noncommercial or
experimental nature. The gallery is located in the 18th Street
Arts Complex near Highways at 1629 18th St. #2 in Santa Monica.
