You know this game where someone asks you to 'say a color' and to 'say a tool', and you are supposed to say the first thing that pops up in your head. Everybody answers "Blue" and "Hammer". It's so strange. I have run this test (it's more a sociological test than a game really) on a lot of people and it's actually true. Everybody ansvers blue hammer.

When first encountering the work of Karl and Andreas I had this feeling that somebody was looking at me, trying to find out what kind of person I was. Lots of associations started to appear in my head but I wasn't really sure what to do with them. In the middle of a landscape made from transparent plastic and wooden constructions, I was looking for this missing mouse. Hints about a missing mouse had me looking for it all over the place. I didn't find it. Instead I found the artists sound asleep under the plasticsheet - which was, by the way, resembling snowy mountains. The whole atmosphere was sad and mysterious but very pleasant at the same time. I never asked Karl or Andreas what happened to that mouse. They would probably have told me there never was one.

Scenarios like this one are developed through a dialogue between the two artists. They create the outline within which a story can unfold through adressing eachother, making certain choices of materials and language. They are constantly searching for words and formulations. What does a word mean? What kind of associations appear when I say that word, what does it symbolize? They fuse the personal mythology with the general mythology in their storytelling and the result is both tragic and comical. The story ends up reaching in several directions.

Distorted Bell is the title of the show at Gallery Wang. So far they have come up with the following clues: The waving hand, The appeal of shoepolishing, Step, Shoe, Charged objects - death, The movement downwards.

What I like to think about is what they once told me: We want to create the notion that if you move a little bit to the right, you will see everything differently.
