Starting from the rhizomatically growing and thus highly timely legend of the Garden of Eden the program In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida brings together timebased media works by Kader Attia, Niklas Goldbach, Pia Greschner, Lisa Junghans, Sophie Kluge, Jennis Li Cheng Tien, Laurent Montaron and Christoph Schlingensief. The title goes back to a misinterpretation. It is subject to several legends how and when the line "In a Garden of Eden" became the mondegreen "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" in the eponymous song by the band Iron Butterfly. As a topos the Garden of Eden is as much locus amoenus as locus terribilis. As myth it is an ambiguous concept. And as a historic site, it yet hasn't found a conclusively clarified geographical location. Real site or fictive space. Paradise Lost or promised happiness. Venue for the meeting of lovers and a fraternal society or site for lover's grief and mental withdrawal from the world. Result of our neediness for fiction or template for empirical presence diagnostics. Utopia, dystopia and heterotopia at once. The mythical Garden of Eden allows to merge multiple narrations, multiple spaces, and multiple placements into one same place.
