The 4th edition. Independent, Critical, Free, Rigorous, Productive... A platform for critical projects and ideas related to cities
Five main themes are being interrogated at this year's festival: Financial Districts, Legalities of Space, City Means Inequality, Post-Olympics, Insurrections - Riots & Revolutions. The festival programme runs from 11am to 8pm each day and includes debates, workshops, lectures, exhibitions, walks and film screenings. The festival has been described as an experience where 'the street', meets 'the community centre' and 'the academy'. Jan 27th, 3.30-5 pm "Common space of the future", video and film screening with Riccardo Benassi, Pietro Mele, Claudio Metallo/Manolo Luppichini, lecture held by activist Barbara Mazzotti, curated by Marianna Liosi and Alessandra Saviotti. What is the potential of the environment to become an arena of protest by the community against the exploitation of the land, the destruction of local economies dressed up as economic progress? Starting point is the NO TAV movement - a large group of Susa Valley (I) inhabitants who organised to protest against the construction of High Speed Trains Rail from Turin to Lyon (France). A video and film screening and discussion about the natural environment as an entity abused by political power becomes the base to start a further debate about controversial questions concerned with the relation between art and politics, how art intends to change the way we see, act and make sense of our world and which is the role played by aesthetic in this discourse. Independent, Critical, Free, Rigorous, Productive... "This Is Not A Gateway" creates platforms for critical projects and ideas related to cities. Full programme on the website.
