This project by Sabine Hornig (German, b. 1964) will perfectly bisect the project ramp at MoMA QNS with a temporary wall. Set into the wall will be four photographic transparencies of abandoned storefronts, all taken on the same street in the center of Berlin. Each of these transparencies is mounted on glass and provides a "window" through which visitors see multilayered images, including the gallery space on the opposite side of the wall, the storefronts, and their own reflections. The familiar experience of walking past storefront windows is rendered less familiar, and viewers are left to consider their place within these real and reflected spaces. The installation also includes a two-part photograph (pictured above) that will appear in the lobby of MoMA QNS.

Organized by Sarah Hermanson Meister, Associate Curator, Department of Photography.

Travel support is provided by Lufthansa.

Additional funding is provided by the Lisette Model Foundation and an anonymous donor.
