The exhibition includes the work of 35 promising young artists. Organized during Art Rotterdam 2013 by the Mondriaan Fund to promote emerging visual artists receiving support from the Fund to develop an oeuvre.
During Art Rotterdam 2013 the Mondriaan Fund is organizing an exhibition with works by young visual artists in the Netherlands who received a grant to develop their career. The exhibition includes the work of 35 promising young artists. Some are still relatively obscure, others have participated in projects and exhibitions in the Netherlands or elsewhere.
The Mondriaan Fund intends to organize this exhibition annually at Art Rotterdam to promote emerging visual artists receiving support from the Fund to develop an oeuvre. The combination with Art Rotterdam offers both professional galleries and a general public a chance to get acquainted with the work of these young artists. Furthermore, the exhibition is an excellent opportunity to demonstrate what can be realized thanks to public funding.
The Mondriaan Fund is a national cultural funding organization focusing on visual arts and cultural heritage. We aim to encourage innovation and excellence in these fields by supporting artists, cultural heritage and art organizations and projects in the Netherlands, and the production and presentation of art from the Netherlands in other countries.
The exhibition will be held in the arthouse cinema LantarenVenster, just around the corner from Art Rotterdam. We selected the Belgian curator Wim Waelput (KIOSK, Ghent) as curator for this inaugural exhibition.
