comunicato stampa

For the third successive time, the Re:Rotterdam, home for your favourite artists, art event is taking place in Rotterdam. The event is on Wednesday 6 up to and including Sunday 10 February this year in the vacant office building on the Blaak in Rotterdam city centre.
Re:Rotterdam is an initiative of Galerie Jaap Sleper (formerly known as Galerie 10) from Utrecht.

Re:Rotterdam 2013 offers even more innovative modern artists than in previous years a podium to present themselves on a floor area of 17,000 m2. At a prominent location in the city (right next to the Willem de Kooning Academy), this time the work of approximately 175 young artists can be seen.

Amongst them, talked-‐about artists such as Lotte Geeven, V&B (Alex Jacobs & Ellemieke Schoenmaker), Pim Palsgraaf, Grenswerk (Jeroen Vrijsen | Aagje Linssen | Lars Leeuw | Munne | Mirka Farabegoli | Martijn Gort | Sabina Timmermans | Matijs van de Kerkhof | Saskia de Marée), Cindy Jansen, Maurice Braspenning, 5 uur...!!, Hester Scheurwater and F. Franciscus will be showing their work.

Galerie Jaap Sleper is again organising Re:Rotterdam on a non-‐profit basis. "Artists must now work in a difficult market more than ever," says initiator Jaap Sleper. "Subsidies no longer apply and artists are also suffering highly from the recession. We, therefore, like to offer them a podium and ask a minimum financial contribution for this. For a small amount, participating artists and art initiatives and collectives can set up their own stand areas in the former offices." The Re:Rotterdam organisation makes every effort to ensure costs are kept as low as possible.
"We are, of course, very happy with the vacant office building that our sponsor IVG Vastgoed has made available," says the gallery owner from Utrecht. "But we are also keeping the organisation low key and simple and are being assisted by volunteers. We are only selling the € 5 entry tickets at the entrance.
We, therefore, do not have an expensive digital reservation and presales system.
This would only represent excessive costs," says Sleper. "We try to approach the market in a new and different manner with this set-‐up."
