Berlin, February 13th --All Day and All Night We Will Celebrate the Birthday of Tacheles!

Art Pro Tacheles is an international non-profit arts and culture association committed to protecting free artistic expression and preserving urban spaces for cultural enrichment.

Free artistic expression is a human right embedded in the broader, fundamental human right of “Free Speech.” Free artistic expression is therefore a necessarily included right in any democracy that guarantees the free exchange of ideas as a means of promoting justice, peace, intellectual liberty, religious freedom, and the dynamic cultural conditions necessary for citizens to pursue meaningful and happy lives. Yet virulent commercialization threatens to usurp all of the prominent public space upon which free expression and cultural praxis so anxiously depend for their efficacy in shaping human development. Officially unrestrained, commercialists are rapidly occupying the last fertile urban ground in pursuit of a single, narrow objective: the construction of increasingly banal and frequently unsuccessful profiteering centers. This invariable design of neo-liberal commercialism and extreme secularism takes its toll and exacts its price in human dignity, inventiveness, creativity, enthusiasm, peace, happiness, and spiritual growth.

Accordingly, Art Pro Tacheles is committed to creating, preserving, and revitalizing important urban spaces throughout Berlin and dedicating them to projects that ensure that every citizen has an opportunity to participate freely in artistic expression and influence culture. And Tacheles, Berlin is the first emergency rescue project on the association’s list of challenges.

Tacheles, Berlin is artistically consecrated urban ground. And the artists still working there have reorganized to erect on the old foundation a new laboratory for vigorous aesthetic and cultural progress. Art Pro Tacheles rejects the radical commercialization of art and urban space and plans to take its first steps towards reversing this destructive trend through the following new projects at the Tacheles site: The Tacheles Arts and Music Festival, the Sanford Meisner Art Theater, the Moses Dan Photography Laboratory, the Tacheles-Plus Berlin Hotel International Artists Residency Program, the Dietrich Bonhoffer Seminars [aimed at examining the relationships between free expression through any medium, preservation of urban cultural space, and human rights], the Super 8mm Kino, and the Tacheles Café and Cabaret. Meanwhile, the grounds will flourish with new Tacheles Secessionist artistic activities in Metal Work, Painting, Sculpture, Black and White Photography, Film, Literature, Music, and Dance.
