The most outstanding Turkish productions of the genre over the last ten years
Coinciding with Arco, whose focus, this year, is on Turkey, Cineteca is integrating its "After Arco" events by putting on a series of Turkish documentary films. Selected by Necati Somnez creator and director of the Istanbul documentary cinema festival "Documentarist", the series unites the most outstanding Turkish productions of the genre over the last ten years, offering us an overview of this interesting moment in the life of Turkish cinematography, and at the same time giving us a detailed insight into the reality of the country. It is a peek into the day-to-day life of Turkish people, their reflections on symbols and the identity of a country that is continually evolving. As a result the selected films put views to us on Kurdish-Iraqi immigration, the celebration of the abolition of the death penalty in 2002 and desire to keep the traditions and cultures of its different regions alive. This series is also a journey into the immense geography of Turkey: from the warmth of the Aegean coast to the theatrical experience of a group of farmers to the south of the country, via the lifestyle and culture of the "Sarikecili", the last nomads of Anatolia and the thousands of faces of a sprawling Istanbul.
