This is Deepa Mahajan's first solo exhibition, highlighting her emphasis on colours and figures. Her human forms are mystical, fluid and dynamic, allowing individual interpretation to suit the viewer's temperament and mood, transcending the confines of her composition, while her use of colour reflects the intuitive nature of her paintings.
This is Deepa Mahajan's first solo exhibition, highlighting her emphasis on colours and figures. Her human forms are mystical, fluid and dynamic, allowing individual interpretation to suit the viewer's temperament and mood, transcending the confines of her composition, while her use of colour reflects the intuitive nature of her paintings. Mixing earth tones with bright colours as well as black and white, her colours boldly announce their presence on every available area on her canvas. Her shapes and textures fit together like a patchwork quilt, creating a distinctly contemporary feel unique to her paintings.
Deepa is a self-trained, crossover artist who opted for paint and canvas in lieu of information technology consulting. Having grown up in southern India, she was no stranger to the various art forms and gravitated towards the canvas. As an artist, she does not allow herself to become complacent but is constantly challenging herself in visual imagery, media, techniques and concepts. She endeavours to convey emotions rather than messages through her work and asks the audience to view her art in the context of their own value system and moral standards.
