The Gotham Prize award, coinceived as an opportunity to present the excellence of young Italian artists in New York, is a project of the Italian Cultural Institute. The 2012 winners are Marinella Senatore and Sissi.
Artist and filmmaker Marinella Senatore presents her video trilogy, Rosas, a prolific work born out of participation and the involvement of the community and the public. Participants become witnesses to the entire course of production, covering the different roles of co-authors, actors, set designers, cameramen, and directors.
The characteristic feature of Sissi's poetics is manual labor, through which the vitality of creative expression is found in the dimension of "creating". The objective of Sintesi Anatomica the project nominated for the Gotham Prize, is to create a series of 4 large drawings. The viewer is surrounded by a wealth of information and images explaining the human anatomical apparatus, around which the artist has developed a theory.
