Laboratory of the Future: TOGETHER / APART is the next – after the REGRESS / PROGRESS project - presentation of the long-term project initiated in 2011 by the Centre for Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle. Its aim is to return to the future through a combination of the most important topics, regarding the current forecasts and insights into contemporary art, science, politics, as well as social life.
Laboratory of the Future is a project with a multi-layered structure, with a work in progress aspect. It will include exhibitions, presentations, performances, film screenings, conferences, workshops, lectures, and discussions. Inside the Ujazdowski Castle, an active platform will be created for discussions, forming opinions and ideas among politicians, scientists, philosophers, economists, sociologists as well as artists interested in future issues.
The TOGETHER / APART project focuses on the society of the future: relations of the individual and the group, the possible types of social organization and participation in the world, opposing trends, which may have an impact on how society would continue and what forms it would take. A laboratorial, experimental formulation, allowing layering and addition of different elements, is to serve the broadening of opportunities for reflection and for building a long-term dialogue between invited experts, artists and public. Art and science are treated equally here, as a tool for researching and designing social change, inventing and developing alternative scenarios for tomorrow's society.
Also being presented, the video work of Wojtek Ziemilski "Potential (A and B), 2011-2012".
“Negotiations with ants are proposals for the beginning of the world. The beginning of language, culture, and civilization. Although version "A" (where the letter “a” appears) seems to be more optimistic, it's hard not to ask yourself questions about the rest. What kind of project has a chance to be realized and what will it translate into?”
Wojtek Ziemilski.
