A Moment. Master Photographers: Portraits by Michael Somoroff. "These images were a labor of love, an homage to my teachers, friends, and mentors. And, they are my roots, roots that are firmly grounded in the history of photography; that is my history".
Feroz Galerie is pleased to announce A Moment. Master Photographers: Portraits by Michael Somoroff , the first complete
exhibition of the series by Michael Somoroff. Introduced in book form October 2012 by Damiani, closely followed by a presentation of select portraits by Feroz Galerie in November at Paris Photo.
A Moment. Master Photographers: Portraits by Michael Somoroff comprises 34 works, an inspired project that began thirty-five years ago, these portraits were originally created as a kind of visual journal, a tribute to the modern masters of the medium by a young photographer. Intensely personal, the images were never intended for publication and were forgotten for many years. The complete work is now available in a hand printed edition of 9.
By inviting each photographer to step out from behind the camera, Somoroff has captured the last moment of pure analog film practitioners.
Including portraits of: Frances McLaughlin-Gill, Cornell Capa, Art Kane, Bert Stern, Ben Somoroff, Sid Kaplan, Herman Landshoff, Arnold Newman, Horst P. Horst, Elliot Erwitt, Elliot Erwitt, Ernst Haas, Ralph Gibson, Andreas Feininger
