Work By Over Forty Artists on Display at April's Artswalk in Pittsfield's Upstreet Cultural District

Brand new art exhibitions are springing onto Pittsfield's Upstreet Cultural District for the city's upcoming First Fridays Artswalk event, continuing on Friday, April 5, 2013, from 5pm-8pm. Galleries, shops and restaurants are open late. Free maps and guides will be available throughout downtown as well as online at firstfridaysartswalk.com. With the cold weather as a recent memory, visual and performing arts displays warm up downtown Pittsfield with your favorite Artswalk participants and venues, along with newcomers adding to the excitement.

Don't miss two new participating Artswalk venues: Bisque, Beads & Beyond displaying new series of abstract acrylics by Eileen Conway inspired by the Newtown, Conn., tragedy, and Crawford Square's Decades of Health Holistic Wellness exhibiting acrylic work by Scott Taylor.

In addition, enjoy two storefront installations on North Street: the Brothership Building showcases the work of Miss Hall's School student artist Sutton Moore and the Onota Window Storefront presenting Works in Progress by Katherine Gundelfinger.

In total, 24 new art exhibits don upstreet Pittsfield from North Street to South Street beginning on Friday, including an artist reception for Barbara Arpante's photography from 3pm-5pm in the Berkshire Medical Center lobby; photography by Marisa Burntitus at Berkshire Animal D.R.E.A.M.S.; sculpture and works on paper by Nathan Alan Keay at yBar in an exhibit entitled SNUG: An Education in Control; and forgotten old buildings and soon-to-be-depleted landscapes in oil on canvas by Bill Hall at Aerus Electrolux.

Further down North Street you'll find Leslie Klein's playful, funky, and humorous take on adornment at Le Petit Musee inside Wild Sage; Mike Arest's mixed media exhibit entitled While You Were Sleeping at Gallery 25; a creative collaborative journey entitled Africa by Dee Randolph and Kathy Gideon at NUarts Studios & Gallery; colorful and imaginative wall art for kids by Patricia Carchedi at TREEHOUSE Children's Boutique; and a public reception for Armory Studio featuring the work of tattoo artists Jim Squires, Emrys Yetz, Wayne Kickery and Brad Briggs at Berkshire Community College's Intermodal Gallery; fashion photography by Charlie Jacobs at Steven Valenti's Clothing for Men; and Kim Simon's abstract watercolors at Maria's European Delights.

Inside Crawford Square, at the corner of North and Depot Streets, enjoy unique shops and new art including local landscapes in oil by Morris Bennett at Kinderhook Real Estate; a pop-up line drawing demo by Allison Pierce at Pateez Boutique; a glimpse at sports' biggest rivalry with Judy Quinto's photography exhibit entitled On Deck: Fenway's Finest and The Bronx Bombers at Brenda & Company; and fine art photography by Mike Schiffer at Unusual Wedding Rings & More.

Get a sneak preview of work by Berkshire-based college art students from Williams College, Mass College of Art, Bard College, Champlain College and MCLA in the annual BAA Fellowship Show at the Lichtenstein Center for the Arts; enjoy an opening reception for Jack Poore's photography of travel and people at The Marketplace Café; and take advantage of free admission to the Berkshire Museum for the opening reception of its new exhibit, OBJECTIFY, featuring some of the most significant and fascinating objects from the Berkshire Museum's holdings of more than 40,000 artworks, specimens, and artifacts.

Ongoing shows that will be open Friday night during Artswalk include photography by Douglass Truth at The Lantern; artwork by pen and ink artist and children's book illustrator Dee Randolph at West Side Clock Shop; John ffrench's limited edition prints at Shire City Sanctuary; multimedia works by Doane Perry, Karen Carmean, Susan Merrill and Mitch Greenwald at Bagels, Too; large format photography by David Ricci at Spice Dragon; and prints by Marguerite Bride on display at the Crowne Plaza.

April's Artswalk offers performing arts as well, with live music beginning at 5pm with youngsters Nico Wohl, a 12-year old musician playing guitar inside Crawford Square, and 14-year old Pittsfield High School student Dvorah Gitlitz performing original material on the piano at Gallery 25. The music of The Tablesaw Acoustic Band accompanies original oils and acrylics on canvas by Candice Cimini-Farrell and a chocolate tasting catered by the award-winning Chocolate Springs Café of Lenox at Downtown Pittsfield, Inc. Make an evening of Artswalk with dinner out and live music at Mission Bar + Tapas, where the Sister City Jazz Ambassadors will play from 5:30pm-8pm followed by 8 Foot River from 8:30pm-11pm, with no cover charge. Or help celebrate Jazz Appreciation Month with Berkshires Jazz at Baba Louie's Backroom during an album-release party for the Jeff Holmes Quartet beginning at 8pm.
