Re‑Examining the Work of Jay DeFeo. Roundtable
A unique figure in postwar American art, Jay DeFeo experimented with unconventional materials, unique methods, and varied 'visual concerns' to produce a self-reflexive, if non-linear, body of work. On the occasion of Jay DeFeo: A Retrospective, this roundtable will dispel popular myths associated with DeFeo's life in order to illuminate her diverse oeuvre in its entirety. Scholars and artists including Richard Shiff, Bill Berkson, Ron Nagle, and exhibition curator Dana Miller will consider the broader art historical context of DeFeo's work and her lasting influence on contemporary artists.
