Nomads & Residents

Nomads & Residents, New York

Nomads & Residents is a forum for visitors in the arts: making connections, supporting networks, setting up meetings. Last project is about alternative art press...

comunicato stampa

NOMADS & RESIDENTS has a special interest in projects that will be developed on a collective manner, and in practices making resources and ideas available for common use. In 2001, during the first "Lecture Lounge" event at the Clocktower gallery (PS1, New York), NOMADS & RESIDENTS initiated the "Magazine Table," that collected a broad variety of contributions from non-profit, alternative, self-organized groups and spaces, thus giving an unexpected insight into discourses and networks out of the mainstream.

NOMADS & RESIDENTS will now reactivate the Magazine Table in a new format. Two times a year, a continuously growing collection of magazines will be presented in new venues, updated and actualized for each occasion. This archival body will then travel a new venue and where it will be available for the public consultation. In order to guarantee continuity and growth, the network of NOMADS & RESIDENTS, for each new venue, will make a call to contribute to the Table with new issues and new magazines.

The NOMADS & RESIDENTS TRAVELLING MAGAZINE TABLE will try to create a system of circulation for a product - contemporary art periodicals on paper - that, apart from extremely few exceptions, has a very limited and difficult distribution.

In October 2003, NOMADS & RESIDENTS TRAVELLING MAGAZINE TABLE will have its first landing in the CAC in Vilnius (Lithuania), in occasion of the show "24/7 - Wilno / Nueva York Project"

We invite you to contribute to this, and send magazines or other kind of periodicals to:

Contemporary Art Centre
Vokieciu Str. 2
LT - 2001 Vilnius
Lithuania

You are invited to send two copies of the last issue(s). If you want to send more copies and/or more issues, please feel free to do so, but be aware that shipping costs are, in any case, at your charge and that we will not sell the magazines but only offer them for a free consultation. We encourage you to send brochures or fliers that can provide the readers with information about subscription.

Deadline: October 1st

We also invite you to spread this information and keep us informed of all groups and individuals that, all around the world, are engaged in publishing non-commercial art periodicals.

About NOMADS & RESIDENTS

Big cities are in a continuous flux, with a coming and going of people who settle in, stay temporarily or move through. Newcomers enter this flux, become part of the life of the city, and make connections with others. The city, as a space, contains possibilities through the dynamic relationships between people, which may provoke an active engagement. Strangers become friends, ideas become practice, models are being transformed into action. NOMADS & RESIDENTS originated in New York, yet also bases its activities on the coming and going of people who settle in, stay temporarily or move through cities such as Los Angeles, Rotterdam, Munich and Amsterdam.
