During the Gallery Weekend, Open Walls Gallery features curatorial tours, artist talks and parties (a mingle-mangle of different styles in music, art, and after hour culture).
During the Gallery Weekend, OPEN WALLS Gallery invites you to a get together in STATTBAD, which supersedes any pretentiousness and exclusiveness, integrating the public into its work and play. Bursting out of the official opening hours, we strive to break up the rigid framework and open our doors to friends, and friends of friends, in the Time OFF to celebrate, protest, and discover. Our cultural activity is defined by transmissible structures that go along with a high quality standard. “Feel invited” is the slogan which still can be found on the Gallery Weekend's webpage; OPEN WALLS & STATTBAD are living this kind of freedom & we cordially invite everyone, who feels that the air is getting a little bit too thin, to breathe the content in a more agravic atmosphere.
Fr. April 26th - Love Me After Midnight #4
The transition from the exhibitions visit to high spirits and hilarity will be facilitated on Friday, April 26th, from 9pm on, by the hosts of Love Me After Midnight. The Skater Kollektiv 3ECK, Baubüro Planen und Sägen and die Welle im Wedding Group – known as the faces and represent the contributors to Stattbad and the Skater scene - invite you to their 4th edition, stressing out a vision of culture which strongly relies on: Open Mindedness.
Therefore, their parties tend to be a mingle-mangle of different styles in music, art, and after hour culture. They strive for anachronism, actionism and anarchy without dogma.
The DJs intend to represent unforeseeable sounds, the artists intent isn’t to make the walls more beautiful, but paint images of dignified failure and ageing, and people will sing karaoke, for the sake of fun, and dance.
Sa. April 27th - Curatorial Tours, Artist Talks & Parties
This idea of pure actionism will progress on Saturday, April 27th, first with expanded opening hours, and second by an interactive exchange with the curators and artists of our exhibitions, striving to provide every participant with new perspectives.
In the Big Pool, the concept of Open Mindedness is brought forward by the works of Clemens Behr and Nural Moser. Clemens Behr creates from nothing; he deconstructs to reconstruct. Striving for action the sculpture is set in motion through the water being pumped from the pool triggering small mechanisms articulating and animating the whole piece. Furthermore the exhibition Rauminstallation mit Pumpe (und andere Sachen) also introduces the viewer to different types of works: paintings, silkprints, objects, as well as some of Nural Moser’s architectural printed collages. Nural Mosers Moser's minimalist three dimensional and two dimensional works echo Behr's installations. She also improvises and takes into account the colors, shapes and materials of the surroundings. This four-handed re-composition of the swimming pool captures the essence of its structure, and celebrates the presence of water in an architectural environment.
With the election of the exhibition space, also Anne Naundorf – A.N.C. Projects – intends to break the spectator’s conventional habits of seeing and perceiving. Within her exhibition "We have decided yesterdates to change the day" she displays works – sculptures, paintings and monotypes - by young artists Charlotte Dualé, Anne Kollwitz and Elena Tamburini, in unconventional rooms to question their interaction and singularity given by its force of self-significance.
From 8pm on, the foyer of Stattbad will, again, join this wave of significance jumping on it artistically, in extension of the mechanic water play in the pool, and the waves of protest and resistance which are canalised in the third exhibition “Dissidents, Groupshow”.
By acknowledging the social and political unrest of our time, OPEN WALLS Gallery cordially invites you to dive into non-conformity. A dissident, broadly defined, is a person who actively challenges an established doctrine, policy, or institution. Using the urban landscape as a playground the artists call representatively for both political and social opposition, making them pioneers of dissident activity.
We are proud to announce that those billows won't stop either in the Stattbar, where we will display the work The Philly-Mumbai-Act of David Johannson, who won the one hand seeks the truth and raises awareness taking actively the position of an adversary of the establishment putting it into question. His large-sized Inkjet-Prints call for dissident action exposing violent political grievances.
Last but not least, from 12am on, the label Get Physical will put the party together and invite everyone to dance on three floors, while the exhibitions are still open to the public until 2am.
