Homage to Jay DeFeo. Live action painting performance
Taking inspiration from the time-honored tradition of copying paintings in museums, Lowman will replicate a work currently on view in Jay DeFeo: A Retrospective, while opening up his own studio practice to the public. Like Delacroix and other artists who carefully copied Old Masters in the Louvre, Lowman's process of close looking and careful preparation belie the feeling of spontaneity that permeates both DeFeo's work and his own. This event is free with Museum admission, which is pay-what-you-wish on Fridays, 6-9 pm. There are no special tickets or reservations. Image: DeFeo working on what was then titled Deathrose, 1960.
