The Public Image. From family photographs to business cards, from photographic documentations of expeditions to postcard motifs...

sintesi del comunicato stampa

The Public Image is a very comprehensive subject, which is directly correlated to image generation, in particular in the field of photography: Photographs are made with the intention to show them to a specific group of people. There is a wide range of possibilities to meet the public demand for images: from family photographs to business cards, from photographic documentations of expeditions to postcard motifs, from paparazzi snapshots to stylized portraits of politicians. In addition there are pictures which produce public spaces by creating awareness and making visible what would remain hidden or be missed without pictorial documents; this includes, for example, photographic documents created as part of performative genres of arts to visualize transient art actions, or photographs which may cause irritation, shocking pictures or photographs of events and persons, which only become visible through the photographic image. The exhibition also touches on the issue of the public as theme and image content, for example with pictures of passers-by in public space, pictures of public spaces and their occupation or with bold pictorial appeals, for example in advertising.
