Everything For You, Otegem. The exhibition contains a total installation of new sculptures. All sculptures are composed of different architectural objects and are called "Gifts".
Curated by Luk Lambrecht
Deweer Gallery is the challenging setting for a new edition of Everything for you by Belgian artist Jan De Cock. De Cock's exhibition series tackles the concept of the free market. The first edition Everything for you, Mexico-City, opened in March 2013. In 2014, Everything for you, Milan and Everything for you, Beijing will follow. Everything for you, Otegem, curated by Luk Lambrecht, contains a total installation of new sculptures. All sculptures are composed of different architectural objects and are called 'Gifts.'
With this philosophical posture, Jan De Cock undermines the notions of value and beauty that are often intertwined in people's mind. The aspect of gift lies in the fact that the artist will activate his sculptures in people's life and environments, an action or a moment he records photographically. The value and beauty of human relations thereby equals the sculptures' aesthetic and commercial value.
These interactions will take place during the duration of the exhibition.
In the interaction with people Jan De Cock creates new confrontations making these fetishes and objects transcend their condition. Otegem itself becomes his white studio, his works displaced from the gallery and institutional spaces to the life of people, a window to the world. It's a fundamental rupture in de Cock's approach from his well-known in-situ interventions. These sculptures are made in another context (his studio in Brussels) and now activated in another city, by other people, with other perceptions and representations. These physical and emotional confrontations are made otherwise visible. Jan De Cock has invented a new way of working: he calls it 'sculpturecommunism.'
For his very first solo show at Deweer Gallery, Jan De Cock occupies all the gallery's exhibition rooms. The show indeed takes place in the Lobby and in the large exhibition halls Room I and II. The artist further curates Deweer Gallery Collector's Room #4 presentation, that for a change will be mounted in Room III.
