CONTURBANARIES, the new, curated fair for Contemporary & Fine Urban Arts in Berlin, opens on September 19, 2013.
The international fair offers an interdisciplinary platform for Berlin’s popular (urban) art scene and its artists, galleries, publishers, and other key figures across 2500 m². Berlin is no longer an island: the city has long enjoyed an international reputation for having the most progressive art scene impulses in a global, young culture. At this fair, the creators present themselves – no gimmicks or middlemen.
At CONTURBANARIES the Berlin Originals and their international friends and colleagues take center stage.
CONTURBANARIES is more than an art fair. In addition to an exhibition space covering 800 m² with 14 exhibition niches for Berlin galleries and international artists, CONTURBANARIES is also a festival that includes workshops for the public, a meeting point for networking and exchange,
a film program with international film productions, a poetry slam, numerous live painting performances, and Berlin’s legendary Party Arty on the opening night.
Select local restaurants will offer their fare at soul food stands. There will also be a Kids Corner with workshops on cut-outs and a 100-meter-long painting wall. CONTURBANARIES is an event for the entire family. Not only does it offer amazing art works, but also live encounters with the artists and loads of fun throughout the entire weekend.

The CONTURBANARIES festival in late September is the start of a series of fairs: twice a year and in the same location the team will be presenting innovative and original events. CONTURBANARIES is created by Till Samer, director of Friedrichshain gallery BOX32, Jan Kage, director of Kreuzberg art space SCHAU FENSTER and creator of art event PARTY ARTY. With unfailing support from Tobi Grause, owner of MIKZ club and assisting coordination by Elise Luong, cofounder of Undecided Productions (Brussels).
