Opernwerkstatten - Opera Workshops, Berlin

The IX edition features 77 exhibitors from five continents. Focus Academy features works of young artists and Preview Video Screening shows video art in the Sony Center Berlin.

comunicato stampa

With 77 exhibitors participating from five continents, the PREVIEW BERLIN ART FAIR from 19 – 22 September 2013 will once again present an overview of the most innovative positions in international art. In addition, the PREVIEW BERLIN offers multifaceted insights into the gallery scene and art production in Berlin.

For its ninth edition, the exhibition opens the curtain on a previously undiscovered location in the centre of the city: the Berlin Opera Workshops. By holding an art fair here for the first time, the PREVIEW BERLIN follows the artistic and creative tradition of the Opera Workshops in Zinnowitzer Strasse, transforming the building into a vibrant venue for contemporary art. Besides the popular white cube exhibition stands, there will once again be solo walls this year, enabling young, emerging artists and galleries to focus on a targeted presentation of the latest trends in art.

The promising work of graduates from six art universities will be shown this year in the Focus Academy. With the presentation of the University of Ljubljana, the format has been opened to international art universities.

Together with Berlin Hyp, PREVIEW BERLIN will once again honour two artists represented at the art fair with an advancement award. Concurrently, Sara Möbius, last year’s winner, will show her work in a solo exhibition.

THE EXHIBITORS
With 18 nations from five continents, this year’s PREVIEW BERLIN ART FAIR is even more international than last year. Among the European exhibitors in 2013, there will once again be galleries from Scandinavia, including Galerie Møller Witt from Aarhus and Lübeck Art Studio from Malmö.

A new gallery will be Island6 by Pantocrátor Gallery from Shanghai, which will be taking part in the PREVIEW BERLIN ART FAIR 2013 together with the Spanish galleries 3Punts, Esther Arias and Son Espace as part of the cooperation with the Swab Barcelona. As a new cooperation partner, Art Market Budapest will also show artists from Hungary. The positive response from its presentation last year prompted Michael Reid from Sydney to open a branch in Berlin and participate once again this year. Following various presentations of artists from Israel at the PREVIEW BERLIN, the Israeli Embassy in Berlin will now show two artists itself in the Opera Workshops. After participating in the PREVIEW BERLIN 2012, Galerie Bart from Amsterdam initiated the exhibition “I AMsterdam – YOU Berlin” in Berlin in April and will show four artists at the PREVIEW BERLIN ART FAIR 2013.

With 34 exhibitors from Berlin, the ninth edition of the exhibition continues to focus on the multifaceted local gallery scene. Manière Noire had one of the best-designed stands last year and will also be showing at this year’s exhibition. Of the longstanding partners from Germany, the galleries Anna Klinkhammer, Maerz, Oechsner and Kleindienst will once again be participating this year.

Particularly noteworthy is that the Kunstverein Familie Montez will also appear in the Opera Workshops as part of the PREVIEW BERLIN ART FAIR.

In addition to art universities already known from recent years such as the Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design in Halle, the Muthesius Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Kiel, the Offenbach University of Art and Design and the Bauhaus University Weimar, in 2013, the Academy of Fine Arts Dresden and the Academy of Fine Arts and Design of the University of Ljubljana will exhibit the promising work of their young artists.

In the future, all stakeholders in Berlin should feel invited. Therefore, the jury will integrate new projects, exhibitions, initiatives and annual partners into the Berlin Art Week every year. In this framework, the PREVIEW BERLIN ART FAIR can act successfully as an international exhibition.
