Børre Sæthre presents his last work: a great installation rapresenting an artistic view on the "lounge". A project based on the conjuction between art, architecture and design.
Combining the talents of the architect, the interior designer and the set
dresser, the Norwegian artist Børre Sæthre creates super-styled spaces that
lead you into the world of the jet-set: airport lounges, hotel lobby¹s and
executive waiting rooms. Spaces with lusciously inviting lounge chairs, a
bottle of Chardonnay always witin reach, feet nestled in plush lilac carpet,
head in the clouds. Welcome to the life of Luxury, Lust and Pleasure!
Børre Sæthre is interested in the idea of the exclusive room, "the lounge"
as a space of privilege and luxurious excess. In 1996, he launched LUSTLUX,
the registered trademark under which his spacial environments (incorporating
walls, furniture, light, sound, and different props) are produced. The
LUSTLUX-installations echo the kind of retro-futuristic design found in
style magazines or classic James Bond-movies: saturated with seduction,
eroticism and hidden desires, oozing sex & power. However, as usual, these
dreamlike settings are always a little bit too perfect. It¹s the kind of
glamour that simultaneously seduces and unsettles. In the end, you realize
this Glamorama-world is only a empty décor, leaving you lonely and
powerless.

Especially for Quarantine Series, Børre Sæthre will create a new
installation, titled Catch me and let me die wonderful (selected memories:
fragments, sketches and ideas from the LUSTLUX-years). The installation is
part of an ongoing 'retrospective' project and consists of several elements
from his large-scale projects in the LUSTLUX-series.
Børre Sæthre studied at the National Academy of Fine Arts in Oslo
(1992-1998); participated at International Study Program (ISP) in New York
(1999-2000) and was a resident at Künstlerhaus Bethanien in Berlijn
(2001-2002). His work has been included in international group shows in a.o.
