From the NBAF Board of Directors Chairperson

This year marks the 12th year of the existence of the National Black Arts Festival. The Festival has evolved into a year round cultural institution presenting artistic programming that connects, inspires, and transforms. Now, in the year 2000, the National Black Arts Festival continues to present premier artistic events. With the support of our public agencies and private corporations and organizations we are able to connect to our communities. The artists involved with the National Black Arts Festival programs and events continue to inspire a local, national, and international community. And at the end of the day, we each are transformed by beauty of the dance, the melody of the song, the brushstrokes of color, and the legacy in the words, by artists of a great diverse people.

Enjoy the 2000 National Black Arts Festival, see you in Atlanta!

Ingrid Saunders Jones
Chairperson

From the NBAF Executive Producer

Join us for the National Black Arts Festival 2000, the biennial showcase of the creative talents and global contributions of the art and artists of people of African descent.

The Festival opens with an exciting weekend at the Studioplex. Located just a few blocks from the Martin Luther King, Jr. Center on historic Auburn Avenue, the Studioplex will host our opening ceremonies, our gala fundraiser and a block party for all of our family and friends. The festival continues with events throughout Atlanta. Start your day with NBAF Readers' Café and end it with the Midnight Jams at the Renaissance Hotel. In between, you might view an art exhibition, listen to poetry, see a dance performance, and attend the theater.

The Festival concludes with a 'Homecoming' - four event-filled days on the campuses of the Atlanta University Center (AUC), Atlanta's historically black colleges and universities. NBAF will offer a centralized, concentrated Festival experience in this significant location. Festival-goers will experience multiple performance stages, the Official NBAF Artists Market, a children's village, an outdoor marketplace, fabulous food, a book fair, doll exhibition and many more activities in a family-friendly atmosphere for a nominal admission fee.

Connect with us in Atlanta, as once again, NBAF demonstrates the power of art and artists to inspire us, and transform our lives. On behalf of the NBAF, its board of directors and staff, I would like to thank our sponsors, the AUC presidents and their staffs, and all of you for your continued support of the National Black Arts Festival.
