Issues of Space
After its presentation at Kunst-Werke in Berlin this summer, Witte de With is
proud to present the exhibition Territories. Territories was curated by Anselm
Franke, in collaboration with the architects Eyal Weizman, Rafi Segal and
Stefano Boeri. Territories examines the production of space, its conquest,
occupation, defense, and control. It assembles works by architects and artists
engaged in examining these strategic territorial features and questioning
their mechanisms of representation. The projects reflect the increasing
interest in interdisciplinary methods and practices in the fields of
geography, architecture and the planning of space.

At Witte de With, the exhibition's main focus is the examination of the
political role of architecture in Israel and the Middle East. The territories
of Israel and Palestine provide an intense and violent "laboratory" for the
working of a territorial conflict of global significance. It presents us with
an arsenal of extreme conditions in which global and generic forms are
organized by national, religious and strategic imperative.
