The Kravets/Wehby Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of Slow
is Smooth, Smooth is Fast , a solo exhibition of new paintings by
James Busby, opening on Thursday, January 9th and running through
February 15th, 2014.
Deepening his exploration of minimal compositions James Busby creates
a symphonic tension within his surfaces. Using techniques of drawing
and grid making to create mirror like surfaces pushing them into
depths of extreme space and fluidity. Interweaving levels of
reflective shine against matted texture, Busby's labor-intensive
process creates pockets of space by excavating from layer after layer
of paint and gesso. A shifting vocabulary of shapes and mark making
is reminiscent of systemic diagrams reminiscent of architecture in a
microchip.
James Busby's work has recently been featured in the More Young
Americans exhibition at the Hotel Miramion in Paris. He is scheduled
to have a solo exhibition in January 2014 at the Kravets Wehby
Gallery. He will also be featured in the upcoming Abstraction
Exhibition at the Nassau County Museum. His work has been featured in
Artforum, The Village Voice and the Washington post.
