comunicato stampa

Turner Prize-winning artist Elizabeth Price’s film is a study of desire and consumption. It was shot in the former home of an anonymous art collector which remains a iconic example of 1960s architecture and interior design. Price takes us on a tour through the house and itsowner’s collection. Her camera lingers over surfaces and textures, taking equal delight in the angular modernis furniture by architect Mies van der Rohe or the curves of a Barbara Hepworthbronze sculpture. Drawing from Mr X’s archive of business papers, the text that accompanies the images talks as much about the lustre of eyeshadows and lipsticks as it does about architecture, fine art and advertising. All of which hint at Mr X’s profession and the fetishisation of objects.

Elizabeth Price is selected by the Whitechapel Gallery as part of Artists’ Film International, a collaborative project which showcases artists working with film, video and animation from 15 partner organisations around the world and presented over the course of a year in each venue: Belgrade Cultural Centre, Belgrade; Video-Forum (n.b.k), Berlin; GAMeC, Bergamo; Fundacion PRÓA, Buenos Aires; New Media Center, Haifa; Hanoi/DOCLAB, Hanoi; Para/Site Art Space, Hong Kong; Istanbul Modern, Istanbul; Centre for Contemporary Arts Afghanistan (CCAA), Kabul; Ballroom Marfa, Marfa, TX; National Centre for Contemporary Arts, Moscow; Project 88, Mumbai; KINOKINO Centre for Art and Film, Sandes, Norway; Cinematheque de Tanger, Tangier and City Gallery Wellington, Wellington.
