4 LA painters and 4 London painters tread the line between beauty and entropy. Featuring (from LA): Jane Callister, Wess Dahlberg, Nicole Farrand and Alison Smith. (from London) Andy Ekins, Nick Fox, Hiroko Nakao and Raymond Yap.

Contemporary notions of beauty are constantly shifting and become the new borders of their own rejection. The work of these artists operate within a structure of beauty, exploiting the narrow margins between the physical presence and illusion, of the fullness of painting at the cusp of ripeness where the moment of entropy hovers near. Issues of mortality are close at hand, hidden behind the appearance of bountiful illusion and pleasure. It s this edge that prevents the fall into an empty and hollow aesthetic and retains, even amplifies, the bittersweet knowledge of beauty’s transience and the poignancy of this awareness.
