SANTA MONICA, CA - On SATURDAY, DECEMBER 6, 2003 Santa Monica Lowe Gallery
presents new paintings by Michael David and Steve Schwartz this exhibition
runs through January 4, 2004.
Michael David (paintings)--Michael David's new pictures are revisions of
classic paintings and photographs with a modernist approach. Recycling
images of established paintings Michael David recontextualizes these
figures, often varying the original size, into his own abstract
expressionist style.
Steve Schwartz (paintings)--Steve Schwartz's paintings are a symphony of
lush, lean, glossy, and matte white paint. These works are richly
metaphorical, often rendering something classic and commonplace. The images
are pared down to essentials, symbolic yet particular; they embody purity
and pure states of consciousness.
The Lowe Gallery represents artists who share powerful and eloquent visions
supported by a highly advanced mastery of their media. The Lowe's stable
represents works in painting, sculpture, encaustic, and mixed media.
The reception will be held from 6 - 9 PM on Saturday December 6, 2003 and
will be open to the public. The Lowe Gallery is located at 2034 Broadway one
block east of Cloverfield in Santa Monica. For more information about
Michael David or Steve Schwartz including images, please contact Manuel
