Art Los Angeles Contemporary

The Barker Hangar, Santa Monica

The 2014 edition presents 70 established and emerging galleries from around the world, offering an informed cross section of what is happening now in contemporary art making.

comunicato stampa

Art Los Angeles Contemporary, the international art fair of the West Coast, celebrates its fifth year at the Barker Hangar January 30 to February 2, 2014. The 2014 edition presents 70 established and emerging galleries from around the world, including an exclusive roster of Los Angeles galleries, offering an informed cross section of what is happening now in contemporary art making.

This year the fair expands its international roster to welcome new exhibitors from Berlin, Paris, Rome and New York. Société will present new work, which reflects the gallery's visually diverse program, including a large-scale black and white painting from Brooklyn-based artist Ned Vena and a group of biomorphological sculptures from Berlin-based artist Timur Si-Qin. MONITOR will premiere a new short film from Nathaniel Mellors, an artist based in London and Amsterdam, as part of an installation including digital prints and paintings. Concurrent with a solo exhibition at the Hammer Museum the fair marks the first presentation of Mellors in Los Angeles. FOXY Production will show new ceramic sculpture and fabric collage from Sterling Ruby.

A number of participating galleries will present an array of compelling solo projects. American Contemporary presents a full-booth installation from New York-based artist David Brooks which subjects a series of found images to the modes of transport and install similar to those of invisible ecosystem services such as clean air and filtered water. On Stellar Rays presents new work from Los Angeles-based artist John Houck, which explores the dialectic between repetition and desire in contemporary technological culture. Houck's creased inkjet prints will be featured as part of a solo exhibition at London's Max Wigram Gallery this fall. Ibid. will show new large-scale paintings by Vienna-based artist Christian Rosa.
