Down in the Blanket. Eddy explores the realness of life through his varied use of mark making and paint handling. The artist uses raw canvas for his paintings to somewhat mimic the rawness of feelings such as heartache and yearning.

By limiting his palette to solely black
and white, Eddy reveals ways we embrace people, situations and actions in order to hang on for dear life. Possibly, these emotions
are as simple as black and white; however, the paint handling suggests even the most
simple can be complex. His absence of color and sophisticated use of the grey scale
are effective tools for revealing the aching sadness of living.
The immediacy of his process lends a strong emotional resonance to these darkly
optimistic images.
Austin Eddy (b. 1986) received his BFA from The School of the Art Institute of
Chicago in 2009. Lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
In 2012 & 2013 Austin Eddy showed at galleries in New York, Boston, Los Angeles,
Oakland, San Diego, and Copenhagen. His latest solo in 2013 was at Roberto Paradise
Gallery in Puerto Rico.
