Down in the Blanket tells the universally human story of loneliness and longing.
Austin Eddy explores the realness of life through his varied use of mark making and
paint handling.Eddy uses raw canvas for his paintings to somewhat mimic the rawness
of feelings such as heartache and yearning.
By limiting his palette to solely black
and white, Eddy reveals ways we embrace people, situations and actions in order to hang on for dear life. Possibly, these emotions
are as simple as black and white; however, the paint handling suggests even the most
simple can be complex. His absence of color and sophisticated use of the grey scale
are effective tools for revealing the aching sadness of living.
The immediacy of his process lends a strong emotional resonance to these darkly
optimistic images.
