The European Media Art Festival in Osnabrueck, a well known
international forum for media and arts, presents a program in the area
of tension between visions, stories and crossovers. For five days
renowned artists, young talents and specialists from the fields of
culture, academia and economics meet a wide public audience in
Osnabrueck to discover and experience new artistic ideas and projects.
'Transmitter' is the idea of this year's festival encompassing
discussions and artistic reflections on crossovers of the formal and
aesthetic aspects of new technological developments in media-arts.
We invite media artists to submit their experimental films and videos,
installations or non-linear work on DVD or in the Internet by January
5th, 2004 to contribute to the festival's program.
// CINEMA
The international film and video program presents experimental short
and feature films, music videos, animations and new forms of narration
and documentation, accompanied by retrospectives and special programs.
In 2004, the festival launches the EMAF-Award for the best
international and trend-setting Media-Arts Production and the Prize of
the German Film Critics for the best German experimental film or video
will be awarded.
// PERFORMANCE
Multimedia performances, VeeJaying, as well as other live-acts are an
intregal part of media-arts since Fluxus and Expanded Cinema emerged
in the 60's. The EMAF reveals international developments and current
concepts - not only during the long media night.
// CONGRESS
The congress gives insight into current media trends and projects
introducing renowned experts to answer vital questions on cultural
understanding in our media orientated society. In the crossover of
various genres and different disciplines, avant-gardists, media and
net artists bridge the conventional divide between art, science and
technology, creating their artistic forms of expression and new
concepts. The festival presents the various different positions and
offers a critical discussion with the audience of the congress.
// EXHIBITION
>From April 21st - May 23rd 2004, the Kunsthalle Dominikanerkirche -
is once again the location of the exhibition with video and computer
installations. It is also the forum for the Electronic Lounge, in
which non-linear works on CD-ROM, DVD and net projects will be
presented.
The Festival -transmits- interactive installations and objects to
public spaces to explore the city as an open architectural media space.
// INTERNATIONAL STUDENT FORUM
A program with a special attitude is offered by the Student Forum
which, in co-operation with European Media Colleges, presents training
concepts, as well as numerous projects curated by students.
The EMAF is member of the European Coordination of Film Festivals-
