Irreverence
Art @ Large is proud to present an exhibition of Paintings by Bill Fogarty.
Fogarty's works are built up of a series of acrylic and oil layers & glazes,
both on canvas and paper. This layering is also true with his subject matter
as well. His focus is on eroticism, portraiture and politically charged
satire. There is an almost naive execution of the work, but upon closer
examination we see a technical proficiency with masterful subtle details. He
tells his story without overstating the subject, and gives us a visual
clarity to human drama in tandem with his great sense of humor.
'My paintings are irreverent,' states Bill. 'I'm not above exploiting
people's fear, perversions, maladies, religion or ethnicity. Some people
may feel that my work is obscene or pornographic, but I would disagree with
this assessment. I am wholeheartedly in opposition to political correctness
and I pride myself on being an equal opportunity offender.'
Bill Fogarty hails from just outside of St. Louis, and holds a BFA in
Painting from Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri. This is his
first solo exhibition in New York City.
