These Things Between Us
Art at Large is proud to present the latest body of work from David
Hochbaum.
Often described as mixed media, these photographic constructions with
acrylic, and gold leaf on wood, are more than just paintings, more than just
collaged photographs, for the deep feelings evoked and experienced by the
artist:
"Love ? being in it, having it, the anxious, all-consuming search for it,
the exhaustion you feel as you cling to your belief in it, the emptiness
somewhere and everywhere inside you when you lose it. What do you know about
love? When did you feel it last? Who did you feel it for? Was it a friend, a
lover, were you lucky enough to find both? Can you describe it? Can you ever
really know what it means? Ask yourself the hard questions and see what you
come up with. Is it enough? Have you captured the essence of that first
burst of energy? Can you describe love when you feel it, or are you too busy
feeling it to know what it is? This is the scope of this work, to describe
what it is to love, from the heady days of invention to the sorrow of loss.
The reason we have the word is because the emotion is. Think of each of
these works as one word, ideas creating a narrative too big to describe with
any one word. This work is all the things you missed, the way you feel, the
emotion, raw and oblivious to your best-laid plans."
The exhibition opens with a reception on: Thursday, April 20, 2006, 6:00 - 9:00pm
