Great Indoors: Artists Investigate the Day to Day features work in photography, video and installation by artists Ken Fandell, Reuben Lorch-Miller, Chris Miller, Martin Parr, Mariah Robertson, and Tonya Solley Thorton that examines particular day to day details of the life we live indoors. The history of vernacular interior representations dates to ancient times, when depictions of everyday life – painted and sculpted – were used to decorate the interiors of palaces and tombs. Working in contemporary artist media, and materials more commonly associated with craft and do-it-yourself projects, the artists in this exhibition take a dynamic and sometimes sentimental approach to the use of the domestic. In doing so they reaffirm the consolation to which we aspire through taming and decorating the spaces we inhabit.
Opens Friday, January 16 with a 5:30-7:30 pm reception preview
