Paintings. Anna Bjerger paints images from books, photographic snapshots and found images. These images are recognisable photos of family days out, landscapes taken on holiday, friends at a party. Once she selects an image she brings out certain elements by editing, emphasising or cropping. The final paintings may seem familiar but the viewer remains dislocated from the narrative that the photograph might once have contained.

Bjerger is interested in the relationship between the formal elements and the more personal aspects of painting. The formal language introduces us to the work and can suggest relationships between paintings that have got nothing to do with the selection of images painted.
"The paintings are derived from snapshots, both personal and found. A snapshot has its own purity in that it is free of any artistic intention and is meant to record personal memory. These images are both generic and specific in their recording of memories, inviting a response that functions on both levels".
Anna Bjerger is originally from Sweden and is now based in London. Since graduating from the Royal College of Art in 2001 she has exhibited in solo exhibitions at MW Projects, London and at the Lithuanian Artist Association. Group exhibitions include 'Draw to be Alive', Hales Gallery, London; 'Love', curated by David Risley at 14 Wharf Road, London; and 'Immediate Gesture' at Lombard-Fried Fine Arts, New York.
