ALEX GENE MORRISON
'Morrison takes the alpha zombie, the most sadistic despot, the toughest end of level baddie; makes them manifest, pokes them with sticks, chucks rocks at them, turns off the electric fence and unleashes them on an unsuspecting viewer. Hide from these paintings wherever you like. A disused shopping mall would provide only the most temporary cover, survivalist bunkers simply postpone the inevitable. They are relentless and determined, delivered with an unnerving authority. Not the dusty pallor of documentary but a kaleidoscope of vivid colours poured fourth with the conviction of the most dedicated fanatic. Diplomacy is ignored as the paintings burble to life, born out of a conviction that what went before is insignificant in comparison to what is soon to be enforced. Swathes of lurid glaze mouldily envelope painted cityscapes, gaining momentum until a rampant spectacle dominates, reshaping compositions, undermining gravity and making a mockery of sense.
These spectres allude to the type of creepy paranoia spilling from the cerebral filing cabinet that plays host to war, slasher flicks, public information films, When The Wind Blows, Quatermass and Zammo. Like media representations of international disaster or a white forensic tent, they stimulate our curiosity, seduce and destroy.'
