'It is hard to touch the real'. Since April 2002 artists who work with video have been invited by the Kunstverein to present their work on the last Thursday of each month. Since April 2002 artists who work with video have been invited by the
Kunstverein to present their work on the last Thursday of each month.
The theme that has brought these artists together is their common
reflection upon and experimentation with the rhetorical devices and
the meaningful opportunities that are afforded within the
'documentary' genre.
Participants included in the first screening-series were: Ursula
Biemann, Johanna Billing, Annika Eriksson, Ruth Kaaserer, Nina
Könnemann, Mari Laanemets & Killu Sukmit, Oliver Ressler and Gitte
Villesen.
This first series of screenings culminated in a three day Video
Festival (7 - 9th of February, 2003) which featured work by new
artists that were chosen by those presented in the first series. As
a result of this parallel selection process, a total of forty five
artists were featured at the end of the first series.
This principal of 'artists selecting artists' applies also to the
SECOND VIDEO FESTIVAL which is to be held at the Kunstverein from the
5th of MARCH (12 am) - 7th of MARCH (evening), 2004.
Artists selecting work for the SECOND FESTIVAL are: Esra Ersen,
Rosalind Nashashibi, Marion von Osten, Isa Rosenberger, Solmaz
Shabazi & Tirdad Zolghadr, Hito Steyerl und Olivier Zabat. A
selection is also made by Soren Grammel, Maria Lind and Judith
Schwarzbart.
The artists selected for the SECOND FESTIVAL include amongst others:
Kamal Ajafari, David Blandy, Klaus von Bruck, Monteith McCollum,
Joseph Dabernig, Alex Gerbaulet, Stephen Greene, Marina Grzinic, Dirk
Herzog, Judith Hopf, Sanja Ivekovic, Vimukth Jayansundera, Klub 2,
Kristina Leko, Jorgen Leth, Farhad Moshiri, Suzanne Ofteringer, PTTL,
