GREEN JAZDÓW. GREEN MARKET

The commencement of Green Jazdów – a unique and lively summer project from the Centre for Contemporary Ujazdowski Castle - is on the horizon with the opening happening on the 27 of June. The inaugural weekend will be full of activities for every age group. Participants will have the opportunity to partake in the Picnic of Generations, concerts, film screenings, workshops for children and adults, as well as lectures from known figures amid the world of economics. The project will officially begin on Friday at 7:00 PM.

This year's edition of the Green Jazdów project will be held under the slogan "Green Jazdów. Green Market" The focal point this year will center around the relationship between ecology and economy. Through special workshops, lectures, discussions and debates, the organizers want to dig deeper into issues concerning ecological economics and business models that differ from the dominant ones.

The exhibition “Slow Future” will open synchronously with this year’s inauguration of Green Jazdów at the Center for Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle (27 of June at 7:00 PM). The show will provide a specific illustration to the themes that will emerge throughout Green Jazdów. The theme of the exhibition is degrowth, in other words, a social movement postulating a reduction in the scale of production and consumption. A debate will be held explaining exactly what degrowthists do after the opening at 8:30 PM; in attendance: Jota Castro, Aleksandra Wasilkowska, Nuria Güell and Michał Augustyn.

In addition to the meeting, the organizers would like to invite everyone to a concert from Bajzel afterwards at 10:00 PM. This extraordinary artist, using drum samples, vocals and guitar sounds, creates compositions sounding like those carried out by several people. Concurrently, those who love cinema will be able to watch the movie "El Mariachi" directed by Robert Rodriguez. For those not yet ready to go home, a DJ set will begin at midnight after the film screening and concert.

On Saturday, the 28 of June, a spatial installation with the markets of Różyc Bazaristan (Różyc Market) will begin to function. Its author is a Polish architect - Aleksandra Wasilkowska, whose works will also be displayed in the exhibition "Slow Future." Once the market opens, products from manufacturers and importers of organic food will be sold - Groser Sery Kozie (Goat Cheese Groser), olives from Morocco, the Real Zieleniak, Pole Ruchu (Field of Move) and Nomada.

At 1:00 PM, the Picnic of Generations will start, crowning the Parade of Seniors which has been organized by the Zaczyn Foundation. One of the great attractions will be the concert from Irena Santor. The fun won’t stop until 8:00 PM, and its most important element will be Intergenerational Dancing with music from DJ Vika.

On the same day at 7.00 PM, the lecture program "Holiday Economics” will kick off with the first lecture given by Professor Mary Mellor, founder of the Sustainable Cities Research Institute and creator of the World Economics Association. During the lecture, the famous researcher will present her proposal for monetary reform, whose goal is to make money from the common good, managed of course in a democratic way. During the following weekends, the program will be hosted by, amongst others: Tomáš Sedláček, economist, writer and lecturer at the Charles University in Prague, former economic adviser to the President of the Czech Republic Vaclav Havel, a member of the National Economic Council of the Czech Republic to the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic; Charles Eisenstein, postgrowth activist author of books and a speaker touching upon themes of civilization, consciousness, money, and human cultural evolution. The starting point of all the meetings are visions, ideas, and strategies for the more commonly understood economy, which have the power to create alternatives amid the avalanche of crises of the modern world.

At 9:00 PM, a concert from the dance, folk band Janusz Prusinowski Trio will ensue, and at 10:00 PM - screening of the cult film "Mad Max" from 1979. Extending into the wee hours of the night – a DJ set.

On Sunday in the marketplace of Green Jazdów, you will be able to buy products from Saturday’s sellers, but also vegetables and fruits from well-known producers of ecological products such as the Majlertów Farm, Dąbrówka and Pan Ziółko (Mr.Herb). Open-air yoga workshops will begin at 11:00 AM and will be conducted by the Foundation Wybieram Zdrowie (I Choose Health). At 11.30 AM, in a series of Literary Breakfasts at Green Jazdów, organized by Klub Czytelniczy Kolacje Literackie (Dinner Literary Reading Club), the bookstore Pępek Sztuki as well as Instalacje Art Bistro, workshops will transpire. The meeting attendees will learn in what way Polish as well as world literature is coping with problems of ecology and economics.

On Sunday from noon, on the Green Jazdów terrain, Teatranki will be held, in other words, a morning filled with theatre activities for children, hitherto implemented in the neighboring Theatre Institute. Animators will devise ecological-theatre activities for children aged 3 to 6 years. The same day, editors of KUKBUK will invite children and their parents to join the event full of great activities.

As an ecological project, Green Jazdów does not use printed materials. We ask for your support in this endeavour and for help in spreading the project’s information. On Friday and Saturday, for the duration of the "Green Jazdów.

Green Market" project, the galleries inside the Center for Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle will remain open until 22.00.

Curator: Jota Castro

After the opening, the debate "What is Degrowth?" will be held with the participation of the curator Jota Castro, as well as artists: Alexander Wasilkowska, Nuria Güell and Michał Augustyn – curator of the program of lectures “Holiday Economics” within the frames of the Green Jazdów project.

The theme of the exhibition is degrowth, a social movement advocating that we should abandon the current model of compulsory economic growth and search for ways to improve the quality of life within the limits of capacity of natural environment. The promoters of degrowth, also known as degrowthists, question the supreme value of material possessions and propose alternative models of economy - barter, cooperatives, co-ownership, and community exchange. According to them, it is mistaken to think that economic growth is indispensable for development and that it is the most important goal that everyone should pursue. Supporters of the idea of degrowth believe that it is precisely unrestrained consumption that aggravates social inequalities, not to mention irreversible damage to natural environment. Through their lifestyles, they are trying to oppose the universal pursuit of growth (in development and in economics), which according to them, creates far more social harm than objective benefits. In order to cut down consumption, we don’t have to make sacrifices or reduce our quality of life. It would be enough to use alternative means and methods at a larger scale, such as: recycling, green transport, converting deserted buildings into flats; and finally - to engage local organizations in decision-making processes relating to changes in public space. In times of economic crisis, such concepts become highly appreciated and inspire artists from all over the world.

The exhibition is a follow-up of the Emergency Pavilion - Rebuilding Utopia (2013) show in Teatro Fondamenta Nuove during the last year’s Venice Biennale. Its curator, Jota Castro (born in Lima, Peru, 1965) is a French-Peruvian artist-activist. In his work, he often reveals the mechanisms of contemporary consumption and examines social issues in the context of sustainable development, ecology, as well as alternative models of economic exchange. The majority of works presented at the Slow Future exhibition are new works by about twenty artists.

The exhibition Slow Future opens together with the third edition of the project Green Jazdów under the theme Green Jazdów. Green Market.
