Money Painting. These are large-scale works in which the canvas is covered with strips of euro notes.
In his first solo exhibition at the Helga de Alvear Gallery, Jorge Galindo presents a new series of pictures entitled Money Painting. These are large-scale works in which the canvas is covered with strips of euro notes, which absorb large patches of paint and activate the waste material that supports them: money.
There is an inevitable link here with abstract matter painting. Jorge Galindo is an artist who uses ordinary everyday materials as the basis of his work so as to bring out their qualities and endow them with a new meaning, language and significance. Nothing could be more ordinary than money — in this case, money that has been discarded, destroyed, torn up… To create this series, he used 200 kg of strips of 10, 20 and 50 euro notes.
